Turn your values into Verbs: Boldness and Leadership

In this NEW blog series, Turn Your Values into Verbs, I will review my top 10 values and how I use them in my business as I begin a new coaching service in 2023. This year, what I learned about myself was the kind of clients I serve well, and that is someone with a team, but what I kept discovering is that the people who were finding me didn’t have a team; they were individuals who wanted to build something unique to support their existing business. Or they want to start a new business with a community-led approach. This is where my new offerings will begin to shine well, and what I learned was that so many people need support in mindset and motivation and want to find calm but struggle with endless opportunities.

In my life, values are the way I want to feel, experience, and express myself. They are a way to guide me in making decisions about clients and services and also a way to remind myself of what I stand for or believe in. So, I want to have these on my website, landing pages, and services pages. They are going to help guide me in the direction of my business.

Boldness 3

I’ve met so many amazing people over the past few years who have this quality that I admire—those who live life carefree and without worrying about what others think. I struggle with this big time. My experiences growing up kept me thinking that Boldness is different, and different is weird, and I have a hard enough time being my weird self, so why should I stand out and be weird louder!?

Today, I want to live a life of Boldness, a life of determination with a willingness to be fearless, doing something without asking for something in return, and standing up for beliefs, values, and others who can’t stand up for themselves. This looks like me supporting creative friends living their entire lives creating amazing things.

When I think of how I practice Boldness, it is in my yoga stance of feeling strong and grounded. It’s being confident and secure. It’s leading conversations by not being afraid to ask the weirdest questions, challenging racism, and standing up for the rights of others, including LGBTQ+, Women’s Right to Choose, and the Human Rights to Peace and Prosperity.

It’s changing the conversation from the “old way of thinking” to this new way that might not be defined or may be modified or transformed. It’s being willing to try new things, and when things you try don’t work the way you expect, it’s the ability to bounce back and try another way or go back to your drawing board and craft a new idea. It’s asking others to see you, really see you, and that can be scary, but it can also be life-changing, motivating, and inspiring. Be Bold. “Freedom lies in being bold.”― Robert Frost.

In my business, Boldness is saying “No” to clients that don’t align with my values, purpose, or mission. It’s saying “Yes” to things that bring me joy, light me up, and inspire me to keep moving forward. It’s not getting stuck comparing my life, business, or relationships with others. Boldness is doing something you are “afraid” to do, then doing it anyway. (Being fearless) I must face the fears around money, self-image, and what the world is “telling me to be or do.” That’s being BOLD.

Leadership 1

Turn your values into Verbs: Boldness and Leadership.

A leader is a person who leads a group, organization, or country. Having a value of leadership means that I enjoy guiding and teaching others. I also appreciate working with leaders who’ve supported me over the years. Being a leader is taking on a role that may seem obvious to others, but a leader needs to step in with courage, face challenges, and have the ability to see the bigger picture.

A Forbes article titled “7 Powerful Characteristics of A Truly Inspirational Leader” points to the top unique element in leadership, which is a commitment to values. “Inspirational leaders are value-driven, leading from a deep sense of purpose and responsibility to create positive change. They clearly understand their values and don’t cave under pressure in situations where they’d need to sacrifice their values to achieve a result. This might not always make them popular, and despite the hatred they receive, inspirational leaders recognize being ethical isn’t always easy, but it’s right.”

My leadership skills have been developed over a lifetime of learning how to listen and respond to the needs of clients, friends, and family members. As a facilitator, I know how to guide conversations and craft stories. In my business, this shows up in my daily work as I take on new projects and provide counsel to coaching clients. In my personal life, I am the first one to volunteer or offer support to others. Over the past few years, I’ve learned that being a leader means taking responsibility and not always taking the credit. The most significant trait of a good leader (in my opinion) is to give credit to those who’ve helped you achieve your goals.
