A Community Strategist who helps entrepreneurs find calm building

An Invitation to Celebrate International Women’s Day. Have you ever thought about starting a tradition?

Last year, I hosted a livestream on YouTube to celebrate International Women’s Day. I was joined by friends and colleagues Jamie Langskov and Laura Zug, who had an interactive discussion about women who’ve inspired, motivated, and elevated them in times of challenge. You can watch that recording here.

This year, I’m inviting women across the globe to join me for my second annual Women Who Lead Livestream on March 8, 2024, at noon Eastern. To sign up, click here.

International Women’s Day (IWD) is a global celebration observed annually on March 8 to recognize and celebrate the achievements and contributions of women throughout history. It also serves as a day to raise awareness about gender inequality and advocate for gender parity.

The origins of International Women’s Day can be traced back to the early 20th century when the labor and socialist movements in the United States and Europe were gaining momentum.

The first National Women’s Day was organized by the United States on February 28, 1909. The idea then spread to other countries, and International Women’s Day was officially established on March 8, 1911.

The day gained particular significance during the women’s suffrage movement, as women campaigned for their right to vote and equal rights in various aspects of life. Over the years, International Women’s Day has evolved into a global celebration highlighting women’s social, economic, cultural, and political achievements.

IWD 2024 theme is 'Inspire Inclusion'

This year’s theme for IWD is ‘Inspire Inclusion’: When we inspire others to understand and value women’s inclusion, we forge a better world. And when women are inspired to be included, there’s a sense of belonging, relevance, and empowerment. So, collectively, let’s forge a more inclusive world for women.

Many individuals participate in events and initiatives to mark the day, including conferences, panel discussions, workshops, and awareness campaigns. International Women’s Day is a time for celebration and an opportunity to reflect on the progress made and the work that still needs to be done to achieve gender equality worldwide.
