Building Relationships for your
community strategy with Pablo Gonzalez
Pablo Gonzalez, the inventor of the Relationship Flywheel and Host of the B2B Community Builders Show, shares his experiences in this episode of the Community Strategy Podcast.
Pablo is obsessed with human connection and has used his expertise to grow his business. Pablo co-founded Be The Stage, a marketing agency whose concept starts with identifying ideal clients, asking them about their challenges, and then using the content they uncover to build digital marketing campaigns for clients to boost their sales and revenue.
Pablo has closed over $60M+ construction projects, rescued fledgling start-ups, set record-breaking quarters for $150M+ companies, and has been named a Latino Leader of the Future and a Top 20 Under 40 in various publications.
Show Notes
3:02 Pablo shares his belief that “Relationships are the atomic unit of business.” He has a superpower and passion for connecting and meeting people in person, so being able to do it in person is something he’s been doing since 2019.
4:40 Pablo shares the quote from Ralph Waldo Emerson: “In my walks, every man I meet is my superior in some way, and in that, I learn from him.” This is one he uses to guide his journey into business. He wants to find the best in others and make others feel great.
8:12 Pablo’s first start was in networking. He found that he focuses on his strengths, leans into building a great first impression with people he meets, and then jumps to connecting virtually to continue the conversation online.
13:03 Chamber of commerce, banquets, and networking events are how Pablo started in community building, and he learned how to be a leader who engages in the room.
15:58 Make sure that when inviting members into a community, you can make it easy for them to return. Pablo shares his recurring weekly live call and how he brings together community builders during his B2B Community Builder Show.
21:02 The number of members in a community doesn’t define the community; Pablo shares his community is about 25 people who show up over and over again.
25:32 Pablo attended the virtual event with CMX last year, and he will be speaking at the event this year. He shares his excitement about the community professionals event and meeting other community leaders.
28:45 Isar shares a few thoughts about becoming the person who elevates others.
30:18 The challenge for the community industry is monetizing or getting funding for community leaders, community builders, and community-focused organizations.
33:17 Pablo says that the more he learns about a business’s products, services, and offers, the more he knows he has to solve a “Monday morning” problem. The offer had to become something that solved that problem that could lead to a community on the back end.
35:02 The community industry needs to prove the value, and overall, the industry needs are speaking in terms of cost of client acquisition, cost of pipeline velocity, lifetime value, and average contract price. Benchmark before and after a community, and then segment the people versus the differences after the community has launched.
37:22 People need to get educated on the value of community until enough people adopt it so that they know why they require it. We just aren’t there yet, Pablo says. Solving the problem of content is the way Pablo helps people warm up to the community concept.
39:22 Isar talks about community support and how savings can be found with customer service by lowering support ticket costs. Communities can allow companies to tap into their target market by
