Calm Guide to Onboarding Members: Step 5 — Going beyond an invitation

The Calm Guide to Onboarding is based on experiences I’ve had with clients who I help build, launch, and grow an online community as well as my experience as a Community Manager.

I put this step-by-step guide together so you can learn what onboarding is, methods of onboarding, identify your process and create your unique onboarding plan.

If you’ve read the previous steps, we’ve discussed what onboarding is, why it’s important, methods for onboarding your members, identifying your onboarding process, and creating your unique onboarding plan.

After the initial onboarding of new members, you’ll want to check in with new members to follow up, sometimes people will not ask questions when they feel like they “should” know something. Reaching out on your part ensures that you want them to feel comfortable navigating the network as well as they are able to understand the purpose for the community and how that fits into their personal journey.

Below are some tips with links to more articles on creating an awesome onboarding experience.

Create Inclusivity — During the onboarding process, it’s important to allow the new member to feel included, so tell them so!

Knowing your members- A deeper understanding of your members will begin after they’ve gotten into your Mighty Network. This is the time you can dig into what they really want help with and how your community can help them.

Creating content that will be consumed — Ask members what’s helpful, then create the content. Don’t worry about creating it all, it can be fun to co-create it!

Thoughts from community members — Have you asked your members what they think of your onboarding process?
